Background
First, an introduction. My name is Dick Frantzreb. Between 2009 and 2022, I published The Placer Performance Calendar, The Sacramento Choral Calendar and The Capital Region Performance Gallery. Also, I was the the co-founder and President of the Sacramento Valley Choral Coalition. I have long felt that performing arts events are severely under-publicized in South Placer County, and I've attended many excellent productions of small (or even large) organizations that received minimal or no publicity, and had small audiences as a consequence. It seemed such a pity.
To remedy this problem, I launched The Placer Performance Calendar on September 4, 2009. My intention was to cover all the performing arts events in South Placer County and nearby Folsom, with detailed information about each performance and its sponsor. Then in 2012 I started adding reviews of as many shows and concerts as I and a couple of fellow reviewers could cover. The year before (2011) I had started the Sacramento Choral Calendar.
By 2016, I realized that I had undertaken too much with the calendars, so I scaled back, stopped writing reviews and concentrated on covering the activities of a few dozen major performing organizations. Then, in 2018 I undertook the more challenging task of publishing reviews of all regional performing arts organizations in the Capital Region Performance Gallery, publishing a couple of reviews each month.
By late 2022, I recognized that the tasks I had carved out for myself weren't valued by enough people in the Sacramento performing arts community, so I decided to stop updating these websites and pursue other interests.
