No roses or chocolates but Blacktop, a small improv
theater in Rocklin, is presenting its salute to Valentine’s Day. We
estimated 50 seats which seemed like a command performance when we
arrived about 15 minutes before the advertised 8:00 p.m. curtain time
but shortly thereafter the audience swelled as more chairs were set up,
far outreaching the original house. It was mostly a young crowd who
seemed familiar with the venue.
Seven lively young performers came on to the spare
stage to present "Shakespeare and Love." The audience shouted out 3
titles and "The Infant King" was the winner. Next, a member of the
audience and threw “fairy dust” on a male and female cast member
designating them the lovers. From there, the improv took over with all
the cast members playing different roles. Laughter abounded as the
clever dialogue and ridiculous situations filled the stage. It was
obvious everyone was enjoying the fun from the college crowd to even
senior citizens like us. The show will continue on Saturday evenings at
8 through March 5. Each show will vary with each different audience so
get out there and laugh. |
